Charlotte Sustainability Awards

Since 2012, Sustain Charlotte has honored smart growth and sustainability leadership in Greater Charlotte through this exciting annual event. Our honorees are working toward sustainability and smart growth, and by their actions, inspire others to do the same. The awards help us further our mission to inspire choices that lead to a healthy, equitable, and vibrant for generations to come.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS! DEADLINE MARCH 7

Do you know a person, project, plan, business, or nonprofit that deserves to be honored for advancing smart growth and sustainability in Charlotte? Nominate them for a Charlotte Sustainability Award by Wednesday, March 7.

All people, projects, and organizations nominated must be located in the Greater Charlotte region. Entries will be judged by an independent panel of local Sustain Charlotte members.

Entries will be evaluated by the extent to which they meet one or more of these criteria (as applicable):

  • Engages the community in planning/identifying challenges and their solutions
  • Uses land efficiently, building up rather than out
  • Considers future adjacent uses
  • Improves resilience to natural hazards
  • Respects community character, design and historic features
  • Creates or enhances a vibrant mix of uses (residential, retail, office)
  • Increase the range of housing options available (size, type, affordability, location)
  • Utilizes low-impact or regenerative design techniques and materials
  • Considers existing or planned development and/or other infrastructure
  • Protects or enhances open space, farmland, parks, or critical environmental areas
  • Improves air quality by reducing air pollution
  • Uses renewable energy and/or promotes energy efficiency
  • Strengthens the local economy
  • Enhances a sustainable food system
  • Encourages or incorporates creative solutions to reduce waste
  • Creates or enhances sustainable transportation choices (biking, walking, transit)
  • Integrates infrastructure that reduces the impact of stormwater runoff, supports water conservation and/or protects aquatic habitats.

ABOUT CHARLOTTE SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS EVENT

This year marks our 7th annual Sustainability Awards. This unique event brings together sustainability leaders from a range of disciplines and sectors: for-profit, nonprofit, government, and individuals.

This event isn't your average awards ceremony. Our attendees are always fun and inspirational, the food is always local, delicious, and sustainable, and our program is upbeat. There will also be an exciting raffle and live auction to raise money for Sustain Charlotte.

As always, the evening will be a memorable and exciting affair that honors and celebrates our most outstanding local sustainability leaders and attracts many of Greater Charlotte’s leaders, elected officials, and media. This event has sold out every year, and over 300 community leaders and influencers attended our 2017 Awards.
