More than 50 people gathered for Sustain Charlotte’s second Impact 704 Academy session Thursday night to learn about transportation challenges — and plans — in Mecklenburg County. Attendees heard from experts at the Charlotte Area Transit System and the Charlotte Department of Transportation and listened to a panel discussion featuring local transportation advocates.

The city of Charlotte provides services to more than 870,000 residents and is implementing strategic projects to promote safety, health, and quality of life.

On Saturday, November 23rd, Sustain Charlotte and the North End Community Coalition (NECC) installed 86 wayfinding signs in the North End community to increase walkability in the area. This work is possible through a Community Challenge grant from AARP as well as support from an Aetna Foundation grant.

Throughout 2019 we've been participating in the Charlotte Streets Map Stakeholder group, which developed updates to the Streets Map. Here is the letter we sent to Charlotte City Council in support of the changes.

If you follow Sustain Charlotte’s work, you know we’re big advocates for trying to bike or walk instead of driving your car. But we know that can be really intimidating for folks who aren’t consistent cyclists, or who are new to the area, so we try to do what we can to make biking more accessible here in Charlotte.

Can you imagine a trip to Atlanta in just over 2 hours? It could be a reality someday, but the Georgia DOT needs our input.

Bicycle culture here in Charlotte is growing every day, but one of the concerns we often hear from residents is about safety. Especially if you have children with you, biking in Charlotte can be intimidating. But we’re here to help.

The City of Charlotte has held three public meetings to solicit the public’s input on four possible future growth scenarios. The first scenario is called Business as Usual. It’s followed by three alternative scenarios showing possible growth patterns that could help achieve a more authentic, equitable, and integrated Charlotte.

The best parts of each scenario can then be combined to create a Preferred Growth Scenario, and that is where YOU can help! Read on to review the scenarios and then take the City's short online survey.

A bus/bike only lane is coming to uptown with the aim of reducing travel times and operational costs for buses. At the most recent meeting of the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC), Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) staff made a presentation on the upcoming 4th St Bus/Bike Only Lane Pilot and the related Envision My Ride Bus Corridor Study.
