You can shape the future of cycling in Charlotte

Despite what you might think, Charlotte is trying to be better for bikes. For years Sustain Charlotte has been advocating for safer places to ride in the city, and now Charlotte is working on creating a new Bicycle Network Map, which will lay the foundation for significant improvements in bike facilities. At our August Shifting Gears workshop, attendees had an opportunity to learn more about Charlotte’s process for creating its map, and to provide input on what should be included in it.

We had a great turn-out for the second Shifting Gears event of the year at Resident Culture Brewing.  Sixty-five people gathered to learn about how scooters can support biking and transportation choices in Charlotte.

CDOT receives public feedback at Shifting Gears

Sustain Charlotte, in partnership with the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT), hosted the last Shifting Gears of 2018 at Resident Culture Brewing.  More than fifty people attended the public action workshop to give their input on how to better Charlotte’s cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.

Exploring walkability in Germany

In September, a delegation from Germany came to Charlotte as part of a transatlantic dialogue on sustainable mobility, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and facilitated by the German American Chamber of Commerce. The focus of the discussion was “walkability as the blueprint for smart cities and work environments.”
