Shifting Gears

Are you interested in helping make Charlotte a better city for bicycling? Would you like to learn what the City and others are already doing and work with them to achieve this goal?

Shifting_Gears-13.pngIf you answered yes to either of these questions, we invite you to join us at our Shifting Gears event series! Save these dates for our remaining 2019 events: May 1, August 14 from 6-8 p.m.

Want to add your voice to the conversation? Join us for this event to get more informed, engage City staff, and meet fellow cycling advocates. Thank you to our sponsor WeeklyRides.com!

On Wednesday, May 1, Sustain Charlotte will continue our Shifting Gears public action workshops to propel cycling in Charlotte forward. After three years of advocacy and project planning by the City of Charlotte, the first phase of the Uptown Cycle Track (IBIKECLT Uptown protected bike lane) is a reality!

Come to Central Piedmont Community College to get the entire Cycle Track experience. You will hear a presentation from the Charlotte Department of Transportation's Active Transportation Team before taking a guided thirty-minute ride down the Cycle Track! CDOT and Sustain Charlotte will lead small group tours to the Rail Trail via the 7th Street bridge, McDowell Street, and 6th Street. Upon return to CPCC, you will give your input directly to CDOT staff about your experience! We will also have some light appetizers available.

**Parking is available in Deck 3 which is right across the street from the Zeiss building on Elizabeth Ave. The entrance for this garage is located on Charlottetowne Ave and as well as E. 4th St. You are able to park in any spot unless it says reserved for someone in particular.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 1

ABOUT SHIFTING GEARS:

Whether you are interested in biking but haven’t yet started, a weekend warrior, or a daily bike commuter -- everyone has a part to play in helping realize our City’s new vision for bicycling in Charlotte.

Each workshop features a keynote speaker and small group discussions where participants connect with other cycling advocates. The goal of each Shifting Gears workshop is for each participant to leave with one action-item and one community contact to help them along the way!

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to get more informed, engaged, and make a difference.
