Group Walk on Little Sugar Creek Greenway: How Greenways Are Designed

Join us for a casual walk as we explore Pineville's new Little Sugar Creek Greenway segment. This free and family-friendly event is co-hosted by Sustain Charlotte, AARP Charlotte, Partners for Parks and the Carolina Thread Trail. We're working together to advocate for an equitable — and fast — expansion of Mecklenburg County's greenway network.

We will be joined by Mecklenburg Park & Recreation Planner, Gwen Cook, who will be guiding the walk and teaching us about how greenways are designed and built. You will also have a chance to get involved with the efforts of Sustain Charlotte and our Growing our Greenway partners to expand our greenway network.

This is a family-friendly event that is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. All participants will be required to sign a waiver upon arrival.

Where: The event will start and end at the same location: Belle Johnston Community Center 1000 Johnston Dr, Pineville, NC 28134. Look for people in Sustain Charlotte t-shirts when you arrive to check in.

CATS bus: CATS bus routes 42 and 58 service the area, although it will require a 15 to 20 minute walk to reach the event site. Find your route at

Route: We'll follow an "out and back" route following the Little Sugar Creek Greenway from Belle Johnston Community Center toward Polk Historic Site. Everyone is welcome to explore more of the greenway after the event ends. This will be a comfortable and casual event. You are welcome to walk less distance than the main group or to add additional miles at the end of our time together.

Rain date: In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to May 18th. Registered attendees will receive an email notifying you of the change.

Accessibility: This is a family-friendly event for people of all ages and abilities.
