Join us for a FREE casual walk or bike ride (your choice!) as we explore west Charlotte's Irwin and Stewart Creek greenways. This free and family-friendly event is co-hosted by Sustain Charlotte, Partners for Parks, and the Carolina Thread Trail. We're working together to advocate for an equitable — and fast — expansion of Mecklenburg County's greenway network.

Our friends with the neighborhood organizations for Wesley Heights, McCrorey Heights, Lincoln Heights, and Oaklawn Park are supporting this event as community co-hosts. Come learn about their important work championing greenways and connectivity in west Charlotte.

You’ll have an opportunity to speak with staff and volunteers from these organizations as we discuss the importance of growing our network of greenways. We’ll begin with a short discussion, then continue with a guided walk and bike ride.

This is a family-friendly event that is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. All participants will be required to sign a waiver upon arrival. We will follow CDC and local health guidance including social distancing, and we ask that you not attend if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

Where: The event will start and end at the same location: Seversville Neighborhood Park at 530 S. Bruns Ave., Charlotte 28208. Look for the black Sustain Charlotte tent when you arrive to check in.

Parking: Seversville Park at 530 S. Bruns Ave. has a small parking lot. There is also a larger lot at the neighboring Wallace Pruitt Recreation Center.

CATS bus: There are several CATS bus routes that serve the area, although it will require a 15- to 20-minute walk to reach the event site. Find your route at

Route: When you register, please indicate if you plan to walk or bike. We'll follow an "out and back" route following the Irwin and Stewart Creek Greenways. Everyone is welcome to explore more of the greenway after the event ends. This will be a comfortable and casual event with no participant left behind. You are welcome to walk or bike less distance than the main group, or to add additional miles at the end of our time together.

Continue the discussion: Join us at Blue Blaze Brewing (528 S Turner Ave) after the event officially concludes if you'd like to connect with like-minded people and talk more about greenways.

Rain date: In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed. Registered attendees will receive an email notifying you of the change.
