Growing our Greenways: Charlotte's McAlpine and Campbell Creek greenways

Join us for a FREE guided family-friendly walk or bike ride in east Charlotte

**Note that the starting location has been moved to the Campbell Creek Greenway Trailhead. {We will NOT be meeting at McAlpine Creek Park due to a large track meet on our event day.}

Join us for a casual walk or bike ride (your choice!) as we explore east Charlotte's McAlpine Creek Greenway and Campbell Creek Greenway. This free event is co-hosted by Sustain Charlotte, Partners for Parks, and the Carolina Thread Trail. We're working together to advocate for an equitable — and fast — expansion of Mecklenburg County's greenway network.

Our friends at CharlotteEAST and Monroe Road Advocates will also be at the event as co-hosts. Come learn about their important work championing east Charlotte and the Monroe Road corridor.

Register here on Eventbrite!

You’ll have an opportunity to speak with staff and volunteers from these organizations as we discuss the importance of growing our network of greenways. We’ll begin with a short discussion, then continue with a guided walk and bike ride.

This is a family-friendly event that is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. All participants will be required to sign a waiver upon arrival. We will follow CDC and local health guidance including social distancing, and we ask that you not attend if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

Where: The event will start and end at the same location: Campbell Creek Greenway trailhead at 2116 Margaret Wallace Rd, Matthews NC 28105.

Parking: Campbell Creek Greenway trailhead (2116 Margaret Wallace Rd, Matthews, NC 28105) OR behind the shops at Independence Square (7207 E Independence Expy, Charlotte, NC 28227; follow the sidewalk along Margaret Wallace Rd. to the trailhead.)

Nearest CATS bus stops:

  • Northbound: Village Lake Dr
  • Southbound: just south of W.T. Harris; walk to Margaret Wallace for signalized crossing

Route: When you register, please indicate if you plan to walk or bike. We'll follow an "out and back" route following the Campbell Creek Greenway. The bicycle group may have time to also explore the McAlpine Creek Greenway to the south, but everyone is welcome to explore more of the greenway after the event ends. This will be a comfortable and casual event with no participant left behind. You are welcome to walk or bike less distance than the main group, or to add additional miles at the end of our time together.
