The “Distracted Pedestrian” Distracts from the Real Safety Problem [Streets.mn]

"The 'distracted pedestrian' angle is a red herring that, at best, distracts us from the real problem of street safety. At worst, this logic is a straight-forward case of victim blaming." As in most other U.S. cities, Charlotte's pedestrian fatality rate is on the rise. Education of drivers and pedestrians is important, but we need safe infrastructure that allows people to walk along and across our increasingly busy streets!

Here’s Where D.C. Public Transit Can Take You — and Who Gets Left Behind [The Washington Post]

"Metrorail, buses and regional commuter rail create an elaborate network of transit accessibility for the [D.C.] region. But while several wealthier neighborhoods and suburbs have relatively easy access to job centers, many lower-income neighborhoods on the eastern side of the District and across the border in Maryland are more difficult to reach." How do transit commute times affect low-income neighborhoods in D.C.? View this article + map!
