Biketoberfest 2016: We Couldn't Have Done it Without You!

Perfect weather, hospitable neighbors, and generous sponsors willing to swing open their doors for the afternoon; put them all together, and that’s a pretty good recipe for any event. Put ‘em on bikes, and we’ve got a second successful Biketoberfest!

And clearly, the idea of enjoying our hometown by bike is catching on! More than 400 people embraced the beautiful fall conditions and the opportunity to enjoy the community through this shared experience. Biketoberfest-ers we talked to had just as much fun playing along with the passport Q and A as they did meeting new people and finding new places to ride, play, or grab a cold drink.

“It was inclusive and diverse, and a perfect opportunity for neighbors from all over to see parts of uptown and South End by bike,” said Vanessa Gorr, Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator for the Carolina Thread Trail, who participated in Biketoberfest.

Having so many sponsors and supporters not only ups the fun factor for Biketoberfest, it also keeps down the costs for participants. Having so many sponsors willing to be a part of the event and the cause… well, clearly we’ve all got a lot in common!

One of our goals of Biketoberfest was to create an event to highlight how fun and easy it is to travel around South End, Wesley Heights, and Charlotte’s Center City without a car. Practically everyone agreed we hit our mark. Better still, most said they plan to be back for the 2017 event! And that’s reason enough to believe events like this do more than continue the conversation about sustainable transportation; they flat out show you that it can be done.

We want to thank our sponsors for making this event possible and for showing their commitment to our community's long-term health and vitality. We’re proud to have their support of this event and our work to increase biking as a form of transportation in our community!
