2017 Accomplishments to Date!

So far this year, we've made tremendous progress towards making our city more vibrant, equitable and healthy for generations to come! Check out our accomplishments to date that have been possible thanks to your support!

Way2Go CLT was launched on March 1! Through this region-wide eight month campaign our goal is to drive ONE MILLION fewer miles alone in 2017! As of today 1,187 residents have participated and 103 Charlotte businesses, neighborhoods, and other organizations have formed teams!

Their collective impact has resulted in:

  • 261,768 miles of walking, biking, public transit and carpooling trips logged

  • 1,988,450 calories burned.

  • 70.5 tons carbon dioxide emissions prevented.

  • $68,572 dollars saved in gas money.

Through our Bicycle Program we engage the community in multiple ways as we work towards our goal of increasing the use of bicycles as a means of transportation for all.

Launched Walk2Transit in late 2016 to give a voice to bus riders and transit advocates. A voice that will result in tangible improvements to the walkability of Charlotte's bus stops.

  • With the community’s help, we mapped nearly 50 bus stops (that are difficult to access or unsafe).

  • We are now conducting bus stop audits of these stops that will be shared with Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT), and City Council to request appropriate pedestrian improvements.

Through our Sustainable Neighborhoods program we provides sustainability education to residents in lower-income neighborhoods across the city.

  • We participated in 42 events where we provided sustainability outreach to 3,000+ of people

  • On June 2 we held WalkCLT in FreeMoreWest to promote walking as a form of transportation. We engaged 350 walkers and partnered with 21 other organizations!

  • Hosted 6 Monthly Mixers attracting over 500 attendees!

  • Wrote and published 25 articles to our blog.

  • Educated and engaged 35,000 people through our newsletter, website, social media, blog, and media coverage

  • Attended 42 local government meetings related to transportation, land use, and sustainability and informed the public about what transpired.

  • Spoke at 2? City Council meetings.

  • Inspired hundreds of residents to voice their support for the city’s new bike plan, which led to its unanimous adoption by City Council in May.
